Why habits are the invisible architecture of success

If you feel like you’re constantly ‘putting out fires’ in your daily life and unable to meet expectations todays post is for you. I used to wonder how some people get ahead of others and it simply boils down to habits. Habits are behaviors we perform on a daily or otherwise regular basis. They’re not just any behaviors, though. A behavior is a habit if some component of it is at least somewhat “automatic.” Some studies estimate that habits make up 40% of our everyday behavior. With a habit, there’s some cue that triggers a behavior. Habits are not routines but more like coping mechanisms that we have put in place to subconsciously produce a dopamine like appeal in our day. We’re not about judging habits. However, if you have specific goals in mind that you have put effort into but are not producing  results, it is recommended that your habits be the first place to look for signs of trouble. What are you doing to achieve your goals? If there is something that you …

Failure is a delay, not defeat…

Failure is delay, not defeat. Success takes time and for these and other reasons a lot people give up on their dreams because the beginning stages are always the hardest. When you’re having a tough time in life it can be hard to see the good in any situation. You start to believe that nothing can change and you begin to feel ‘stuck.’ Maybe things didn’t work out the way you expected. The right opportunities never came along. It doesn’t matter the reason, what matters is that that reason is what’s holding you back. Failure leads to multiple learning opportunities to becoming who you are meant to be. Feeling ‘stuck’ comes from a place of fear and limits. You are start to fear failure an avoid situations where failure is a possibility. Such as applying for a new job or avoiding serious commitment. When you say, “yes,” to your limits you are saying “no” to your possibilities.  Choose to be empowered by failure instead of weakened by it.  It is better to endure hardships live …

Welcome to the prime-time of your life! Want to make the most of it? If so, start with these 20 things you must do in your twenties.  Make them memorable. Make it your credo to learn, live, and laugh. Here is my list of twenty things you should do: 1. Eat at an exotic restaurant. 2. Pay down debt. Your future self will be grateful. Make sacrifices and get it paid down now. 3. Travel to another country. The days of traveling abroad being only for the rich are long gone. We would all love to have more time to do everything. However if you want to be a success and remain You know who you are and what you want. Deny anything that stands in the way of that. Quotes to empower your work week

It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.  Self-motivation is the best motivation but the hardest to maintain. Let’s face it, we are not going to be sunshine and rainbows every day. Overcome feelings of inadequacy & defeat to walk in the confidence you need to dominate your industry. Feeling burnt out? Need a boost to keep going?  For the days when you seem in a ‘funk’ and uninspired look to outside sources for the motivation, you need to stay active and focused on taking action. One of the outside sources that I look to our past examples of success. Quotes are glimpses into the minds of the world’s most well-known people who exuded self-confidence and success. For this Mojo Monday, I compiled my favorite quotes from top authors, entrepreneurs, and activists.   For Monday  “Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.” -Jim Rohn For Tuesday “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my desires.” -Stephen Covey For Wednesday “It is …

Strategies to help you uncover your purpose

One thing I know is that passion builds empires. Passion is what led Steve Jobs to return to Apple after being fired 12 years later and turn into a billion dollar company. Passion is also what led Oprah to become one the first African-American billionaires. after being told she would never make it in show business. Passion is what separates a career from a job. It also is the determining factor when deciding if you’re just living of existing. You have to boldly seek your passions so that your purpose will ultimately show itself. Everyone has a purpose. Don’t count yourself out because you can’t choose one or you feel that you weren’t born with a passion. Some of us are born with the talent that is recognizable to the world. For instance, Ariana Grande has a vocal range that spans 4 octaves without any formal vocal training. It’s obvious she was born to sing. However, not all passions are obvious. You have a gift and can cultivate passion. Passion ties you to being committed to what …

Burned out? Try this to keep your momentum

Life can start to get monotonous.  Work, sleep, repeat.  It can start to feel like life is dragging you through the week versus you feeling in control.  There is a better way to move through life, meet expectations, and still succeed.  You don’t have to allow time to pass you by this way. You can be engaged in your life the way it is now. However, don’t give in and choose to just go with the flow of accepting life’s worst. No, it won’t be easy. Self-motivation is needed to continue to make your goals happen. Whether your goal is to become CEO or own your own business self-motivation is the most important tool. Keep up your momentum.  Be encouraged and stick with your plan no matter what. Stay motivated to see your goals through. It doesn’t matter how many times you fail. Failure is not the end it is the beginning. Giving up is the end. Which one will you choose? Failure sucks and it hurts that when you’ve lost. But the real reason it …

The best (and worst) day to apply for jobs according to research

Monday mornings are the best time to complete job applications. Many people dread Mondays, but if you’re a job seeker you should be looking forward to them.  You no longer have to dread Mondays. Job hunting is unpleasant and time-consuming. But there is a way to make it more effective by utilizing Monday’s. Job hunting seemed so daunting when I began after graduating college in 2012.  I completed hundreds of applications to no avail. I spent weeks frustrated that no one even bothered to check my résumé. In order to run things around, I edited my résumé 3 times only to still receive the same results. Graduation was getting closer so instead of doing more editing and polishing of my résumé and application I decided to check other factors. I realized I was submitting job applications consistently after 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. So, I decided to shake things up and I woke up bright and early at 7:00 a.m. on a Monday morning and applied to three jobs. By 2:00 p.m. I had two phone interviews lined up.  You don’t have to trust my …
